Our story
Michigan's First Afghan Restaurant
Michigan's first Afghan restaurant, cooking the food we grew up on.
Afghan food is built on patience. Rice is soaked, not rushed. Lamb is marinated overnight. Carrots for Qabli Palow are caramelised slowly until they turn sweet enough to taste like dessert. Nothing about it is fast, and that is the point.
When we opened on North Waverly Road, there was nowhere in Michigan to eat this food. Families who had grown up on it had to cook it themselves or go without. So we built a kitchen around the grill and started cooking the way it is cooked at home.
What to order first
If you have never eaten Afghan food, start with Qabli Palow. It is Afghanistan's national dish and the clearest expression of what our kitchen does: steamed brown basmati layered with caramelised carrot and raisin over slow-cooked meat. Sweet, savoury and deeply aromatic all at once.
If you want something with more heat, order the Chapli Kabob — a spiced beef patty from the east of the country, flecked with tomato, green chilli and cracked coriander seed.
And whatever else you order, get the Bolani. It is flatbread stuffed with spiced potato, pan-fried until blistered, and served with yogurt and mint. Everyone finishes it.
Halal and made from scratch
All of our meat is halal. Sauces, bread, soups and desserts are made in our kitchen, not bought in. If you have an allergy or a dietary restriction, tell us — most of our menu is naturally gluten-free, and our vegetarian dishes are cooked separately.
